Digital Release: Ryo Ueda Fancy Fantasia 2009 Calendar
Ryo Ueda (Fancy Fantasia) released the 2009 Calendar as part of the goods set in Comic Market 75. The scan pack contains nine pictures (did not bother scanning the calendar parts: honestly, who would bother with them?). Some may remember that when I did my original Comiket 75 watch post, I flagged this calendar as a must-get (if it’s the only calendar you can get, get this one, I might have said). This opinion has not changed. It’s absolutely superb, with unique and fabulous art, each having their own dominant colour. They seem to be of a scale suited for widescreen wallpapers too. Cover page: It’s Alice theme!
Selective colour. Looks like line art, but it’s actually a proper picture. Accompanies a summary of the months of 2009.
Alice, pioneer of new horizons. Snow blows swiftly away as the sun rises anew. A picture well suited for the beginning of the year. Meanwhile, the rabbit goes (–.-).
The complexity of this pink sakura-themed picture, complementing the welcome of spring.
Mmmmm wet dress. Very well done on the creases in the textile as it gets wet. Covers the months in Japan which are the most rainy.
The attitudes of each of the characters clearly depicted in choices of colours, poses and faces. Summer, of course, and all its charms.
The paradox of autumn: colourful and melancholic, in this red-themed picture, arguably my favourite in this series, as Alice’s signature blue dress is dyed red in sympathy with fallen leaves.
Winter, a season of monochrome, the white of snow juxtaposed with the darkness of the night sky. Alice dons the colours of the season, revelling in solitude on the escarpments above a slumbering town. The stylised falling snow echo the buttons of her coat.

it’s so beautiful
I fixed the hole from the calendar. Not the best but should be fine for most people. http://claritism.com/files/cg/pirezeRyo%20Ueda%20Fancy%20Fantasia%20Calendar%202009%20fixed.zip
I like Ryo Ueda’s works sooo much! It might be too late, but I better order the calendar now…
Alice and the Cheshire Cat enjoying the sakura is now my wallpaper–the JPG is at a great resolution for a widescreen.
What an exquisite find! Thanks for sharing.
Wow… just wow… I love the one with Alice and the great view with the snow. It’s beautiful…

I love Ueda Ryo! When you released “My Name is Domino”, I was so stoked. He’s had some images on his website for years that I had always wanted in a higher resolution. I appreciated your scans so much. :) This calendar is really lovely. Like all of your releases, I am incredibly grateful for the hard work, time and money you put into sharing these hard-to-find artworks with everyone. (I have been following your blog for quite awhile, but never commented until today.) Thank you!

I might be wrong, but I’m pretty sure the one with Alice and the rabbit looking towards the sunrise is a reference to that CG from Fate/stay night where Saber stands in that same pose, with her hands on her sword instead of an umbrella.
The blue and white dress only serves to strengthen the resemblance. ^^
[...] of course, the 2010 calendar. After a splendid 2009 version, I’m clamouring for this new one [...]
