Review: TINKLE’S Duel Dolls Visual Fanbook
Released during Comic Market 74, TINKLE’s Duel Dolls Visual Fanbook is a fairly substantial volume, taking the form of a small sized artbook. It has around 96 pages of decent thickness, and is full colour. Although it is titled “Fanbook”, it is in fact a compilation of the Duel Dolls series of short stories and illustrations which were serialised in the Magical Cute (Magicu) magazines (think of it as a “tankubon”). As a testimony to the quality of the paper and printing, the cleanup procedures for the scans used in this review simply consisted of a surface blur. In other words, there were no screening effects at all, although the paper did lend some texture to the pictures which had to be removed. These were not fully processed however, in the interests of preserving picture detail.

There is shiny foil printing on the cover jacket, which does not come out too well in scans.
It seems the book has arranged the stories by characters, although I’m not too sure how the original serialisation was done.

Its only when looking at the book do I realise how crazy the characters’ names were. Seriously, I thought Illyasviel von Einzbern was bad, but this takes the cake.

Since I do not read the oriental runes, I don’t actually know what Duel Dolls is about, story-wise. I do know it involves cute girls, swords and duels. Like Ikkitousen/similar, when these duels conclude, usually one or both sides are left lying helpless with clothes which are strategically torn.

Duel katana reminds me of Youmu Konpaku. TINKLE x Touhou…imagine the winnage that’d get.

And I forgot to add pretty dresses are also a standard feature of Duel Dolls.

The only thing which stops a classification as a “real” artbook is the presence of text, especially those translucent boxes which obscure the pictures. Thus this is a compilation book.
Also, liking the angry look at the background of the first picture.

This book is such winnage, I’m not sure how come you guys are reading this text. You should either be drooling or dying from a nosebleed.

Right image: not quite Gordan Ramsay.
I forgot to mention most pictures are spreads, so…yeah.
Hells yeah! Yuri!
Bonus picture of some sort.
In conclusion: This book is absolute win. It is chock full of moe, and if you did not get Tsukiyono Chakai (and even if you did), this is a must-buy. “Full colour”, "TINKLE”. That’s all you actually need to know. The quality of the printing pwns the originals in the Magicu magazines even if the page sizes are smaller, just because of the lack of screening. It’s an amazing book, and the scans I did for this review only account for a small proportion of the total work.

I want to buy them. But I have no way to buy. WTH..
Can I ask for where you bought this? Those images are just… wow.
I second your opinion ^^
Did you get any stick poster with it? I was lucky and got the ecchi version of the cover.
TY icieeee /o/ i love tinkle!!:3and thanks for putting the jpg version, omgomgomg!!
Merun: yes indeed, I think I just got the normal version. Ecchi version is for the full set (with the glass plate), so you ARE lucky.
nuku: as with many things, Yahoo Japan. Look at the deputy service link on the side bar for more information.
Hehe, Tinkle is always awesome. I wish I could have bought all of the older books as well.
More Tinkle!
S/he likes frills apparently. And that’s not a bad thing at all.
“I realise how crazy the characters’ names were. Seriously, I thought Illyasviel von Einzbern was bad, but this takes the cake.”
Yeah really. Japanese luv confusing foreign names.

Oh God I must have this book. SELL IT TO ME.
edogawaconan – that one is moonlight tea party one or whatever correct? (2nd link)
Aoie .<
No, I believe that was an artbook for illustrations from a game TINKLE did.
It’s the fanbook for Magical Tail, PS2 version meaning with additional CG. There is a pack of scan around on the internet.
There were a few copies of yahoo japan auction.
I got the ecchi version of the stick poster but no glass plate when I got it off auction.
Unfortunately it got damaged and its hard to repair properly.
I will scan it when I have some time. It’s in quite good condition.
here is the poster: http://moe.imouto.org/post/show/43681/duel_dolls-fixed-lingerie-pantsu-stick_poster-tagm
is this from tinklebell??
i only have the , it seems like tinklebell is only famous for that book (>_<)
Scans coming in at http://moe.imouto.org/pool/show/257 (not my scans). A bit excessively sized, but there are far worse things to do to scans.
Merun: can you scan your cover if it’s different than the one here? (They also love their special editions, which translates to “lots of people miss out”…)
No poster with my copy, either; it’s probably on the wall of the guy I bought mine from, or sold off separately for more than the book itself…
I see what you mean: the poster is different. Wasn’t sure, since it’s really no more ecchi, in my opinion. I think I like the lingerie version better, actually.
