Hunting the Elusive

PICSIX was released by Huke during Comic Market 76, as a stapled 32 page large size book. More observant readers might note only 31 pages depicted in this release, because of a solid black page behind the cover illustration which I did not scan. It contains more of huke’s distinctive art, although a large part of the book is dedicated to Black Rock Shooter, with newer illustrations as well as some near-greyscale illustrations in the dominatrix queen series of drawings. PICSIX is the sixth volume of the Huke Pic series. It also comes with a Black Rock Shooter cell phone hanger (pictures near end of post). [Release] [PNG 1 of 2 | PNG 2 of 2]

The title page design of PICSIX is fairly simple, with a tight crop of one of huke’s artworks, and PICSIX in block letters.

We open with a picture of Asuka in the huke style. Very nice. (BTW, Australian readers, do you know we are going to be able to see the two new Evangelion movies out so far in cinemas? It’ll be part of Madman’s Reelanime for 2009).

The battle between the bad guy and Black Rock Shooter, rendered in two forms. For some reason, I really like the BRS pictures rendered in portrait rather than as a landscape spread (perhaps because they are a pain to scan and process? :P )

I believe this illustration is what the upcoming BRS figure is based off, and I think GSC actually distributed this as a free wallpaper of sorts.

Awesome single pagers of BRS! I really love the colours of huke. They are stark, but at the same time so vibrant.

Some of huke’s HL2-ish portraits of gas-masked soldiers.

We get a series of sepia/b&w pictures of a dominatrix queen’s domination of an innocent young girl. This is possibly related to BRS (due to similarities in the horn structure of the BRS antagonist and that found scattered throughout here), though I am not sure if it actually is.

Note the colour mismatch between the pages, which is present in the original.

More limb augmentation. Again, I love the colour and lighting effects on this one, the gold contrasted with the darkness in the right hand side of the picture.

And we end with the angel of weaponry.

You know what huke should do? He should design a chess set.

Here are two photos of the Black Rock Shooter cell phone hanger that came with the book. It’s actually quite strange, besides being chibi. I’m not sure what the beige thing is hanging under the head – a zipper, or a mini-body? Also, the head is backed onto a structure, which I think actually is the barrel of her gun.

The photos were shot by hanging the thing in front of my LCD screen, which had the scan on display, then using remote flash and cord and shutter dragging.
