Digital Release: Snow Ring dmyo’s d-myotic 4.0
I just have to note that this book is extremely hard to find. Like the previous volume by dmyo which was purportedly sold at Comiket (73 or 74?), the trace is so elusive that sometimes one wonders if dmyo was lying when she said she was at Comiket. That, or the book is so well-loved by those who buy it at the event that it rarely comes up on Yahoo Japan auctions. Still, I managed to get my hands on one volume (possibly one of two that popped up after C75), at a cost of course. This is a 24 page full colour illustration book which is much more like a doujin in that it covers anime, mostly Code Geass, but with some Macross F as well. Another thing to note is that this is a NSFW book, though this post itself is safe to view in draconian tyrant states. [Download: JPG] [PNG]
Here is a thumbnail picture I created to provide a preview of some of the more risque pages. The bar for NSFW is set pretty low in some cases, but if it’s a matter of jail or job loss for some people, then you’d be better off just downloading the release, yes?
This book is full of page spreads, so I guess it’s just as well dmyo chose to go with stapler binding in d-myotic 4.0 instead of the pain-in-the-ass glued and sewed variant.
As usual, the character designs of this Korean artist are great, standing out sweetly from her Japanese colleagues. Additionally, the use of colours and lighting cannot be faulted.
One of the most striking and IMO one of the best pictures in d-myotic 4, with a very Christmassy feel and matching colours.
Ah, and another great thing to love about d-myotic 4.0? Hell yeah, it’s Tiv, another outstanding Korean artist! If anything, Tiv’s stuff is even harder to track down due to various geographical and release factors.
Conclusion? Well, first of all, dmyo is sliding into DEPRAVITY, I tells ya! There is definitely an explicit change compared to Dmyotic 2 (I think Dmyotic 3 was a black and white book). But if anything, her art has been further refined, with the nuances of an artist who has come into her own. Given, it’s a bit less cutesy than early artworks, but there is a greater sense of individual elegance, especially in her interpretation of the Code Geass characters. And hey, she has Tiv as an associated artist, so that’s like a double-win.
As a side note, with the 3rd picture, you might notice that there is a change in colours in terms of what is left and what is right of the seam. I am not sure what happened there, but there is a change of colour in the original print as well, and that has been replicated in the scan. Also the glare-like effect on the right hand side of the 15th picture (the last) is an intentional effect in the original book (the page was scanned properly).

Ah, you were probably one of the users that outbid me on the few Dmyotic 4.0 books I saw on YJA. I should have been willing to spend more as I haven’t seen any listed since a few days after C75 :(
I have Dmyotic 1-3 so I’ll have to keep looking for a copy of this book to complete my collection.
Also, nice review!
Ah, so this’s what you were talking about! Thanks so much for sharing! I think that someone’s
not happy about this though, the moment I clicked the link a downpour started outside (I’m not kidding, it just suddenly started, with thunder and everything!)
P.S.: Is that Luka? I think that’s Luka!
I really like the cute one-before-last picture, in the post, the girl with the huge panda-cat ;)
Out of curiousity, how much did this cost?
And last, I’m asking because I’m a bit unclear; I am very clear on not posting NSFW on here, but in the release, sometimes you include NSFW and sometimes cut it out, what’s the cut-off point there?
And this is great, thanks again for all the awesome :)
Guy: I’m not really sure about the NSFW policy either. I think the level of explicitness gets combined with my laziness to produce the inconsistent results. For example, a lot of the stuff in this release was quite explicitly NSFW (more so than pantsu flashes or swimsuits) so in the process of doing all that cutting and thumbnail making, I probably just figured I might as well go the whole mile and cut ALL possibly NSFW stuff since I was already doing it.
And I think this cost around 6000 yen. Shocking.
6000 Yen? :O <— Shock. And Awe.
No, my question is not from cutting the NSFW from the post, but from the review (as in, it IS there), but I think you did answer… you already scanned them for thumbnails, so they were already scanned, heh.
BTW, know any good program to turn 120 JPGs or so into one PDF?
Oh, and out of further curiousity, how much did this item go for, retail? I’ll assume somewhere between 2000 and 3000 yen?
I am always bouncing out of my seat waiting for the next DMYO book, and whenever you release one here it’s like Christmas. As always, thank you so much!
Guy: It was a thousand yen for a set which includes the book, post cards, and some chocolate. However, dmyo only released 300 sets (and only 100 of these had the chocolate), which might explain why it’s so rare.
Also, in terms of NSFW in releases, I should note I never cut stuff from the releases. So if you download the RARs, everything should be in there. There’s a different policy in play for reviews though.
Now that’s a refreshing take on Geass. As always, thank you for bringing us that elusive which you hunt…
