Hunting the Elusive

The joy of the chase

Scouting Photoshoot Locations

ava A bit more imagination is, I think, necessary when planning a photo shoot in Sydney. After all, the city is replete with gorgeous locales, blessed with blue skies, a bright (if not overly harsh) sun, and the ever-present sea. The Opera House, the Harbour, the Bridge, the skyline…these have been photographed to cliched proportions. And being as I transpose the philosophy of the elusive into my shoots, I thrive on the obscure and unvisited gems of locations which I can find in and around the city. Unfortunately, blinded by convenience, the summer sun, and the white shell of the Opera House, I found it more than a little hard to fulfil my objectives.

That said, my two trips down to the city over the weekend were not entirely wasted. The first destination was the Customs House, which is located quite conveniently across from the Circular Quay station. Funnily enough, I had never been in there before.

Currently on exhibit in the reading room is a selection from Alexia Sinclair’s “The Regal Twelve”.

Currently, it is dominated by a tubular green structure.

A very technological-looking place. Unfortunately, it might be hard to deal with the red tape with getting a shoot here, although I suggest some of the more quiet corners could be used.

A sleek-looking corporate plaza nearby.

Miscellaneous buildings in the area.

The Conservatorium of Music, interior.

The Government House has lush interiors, but unfortunately, no photography (or interactivity with the furniture) within.

A small but elegant garden.

Another possible location is the Marble Bar, although I fear that might require monetary compensation to arrange a shoot in. Or we could just revert to USYD.

I can’t tell you how much I love your pictures. It’s so beautiful and breath taking, I shake with happiness. I don’t want to be a bother, but I want to know if you could send me some pictures. The pictures I am looking for is a dark scene with no people in it. Pictures that shows nature or the sky would do, something that I can put for my background. Thanks. =]

I wouldn’t just say it’s the case just in Australia. All tourist locations around the world would be shot enough already so yes, I agree some creativity is needed for some more unique shots.

You should consider creating a dedicated page for your photos then watermark and create wallpapers out of them, Icie. Could end up starting something ;)

What beautiful locations! I live in a place that seems to be cloudy all of the time, so I envy people in live in locations that are so lovely. I vacationed in Australia 11 years ago (it doesn’t seem that long ago to me..) and it remains one of my favorite places in the world that I have had the pleasure of visiting. It’s a wonderful country!

Ah! Even more lovely photos. Your photo blog entries are inspiring me more and more to buy a new camera and get out there!

And I am sure Auckland will present a lot of interesting oppurtunities for unique photos too :)

ooooh Auckland. I really want to go to New Zealand sometime. They’re supposed to have epic landscapes.
